MY BEST FRIEND

ORIGINALLY PAINTED BY KATHY BOECHER, WITH THE HELP OF MY BEST FRIEND, PAUL BOECHER©

From the day we first met, there was something about you that made my heart smile,

We enjoyed each other’s laughter and sense of humor all through high school,

And day by day grew into forever friends,

Though we were not what you’d expect of a couple, God had plans for us,

Each day since we’ve grown together like two peas in a pod,

Working together, struggling together, building our family and faith together,

Even in our old age, we have found joy in each other’s happiness and laughter.

My friend, my partner, my confidante, my love,

You still know how to make me smile – giggle – belly laugh,

Because God made you just for me,

And we both know that our best friend is Jesus.

WHAT A FRIEND

Joseph M. Scriven penned these words 1855, but the still remain pertinent today.  I have many friends who are facing difficulties in this world.  Many I have never met, some are closer than actual family, and there are those who I haven’t seen in years.  We need people in our lives to lift us up.  Even those who spread words of great inspiration need to be lifted up from time to time.  We need those we can count on in time of distress.  Our hearts are  grateful when we can depend on them for help, but we only need one friend – Jesus.

When our road is difficult, He’s always at our side to help us through it and lead us on the right path.  When our hearts hurt because nothing seems to be going as we wish, He knows our pain.  He suffered more than we could ever endure upon the cross.  When our minds are filled with confusion or despair, He is the only One who can take our hand and truly sympathize with us.

Jesus is our forever friend throughout life and will be there in eternity.  What a friend we have in Jesus.

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.

SOME DAYS STUFF HAPPENS

Yesterday started out as an amazing day.  We’ve had our share of ups and downs on this roller coaster of selling & buying a house, so it was refreshing to begin the morning with worship and praise.  Church is always the best way for me to start the week, because by the end of the week, I’m in the greatest need of God’s nourishment .

The sermon hit the mark.  It spoke of the many changes that occur in our lives each day.  Every second we’re in a constant state of alteration.  We may be faced with financial difficulties – people problems – relationship issues – depression – a political arena that is more like a sideshow – health problems. This constant state of flux is nothing new, but that doesn’t make the walk any easier. The pastor reminded us that through all this change, our God remains constant.  He never falters.  He’s always in control.

We prayed for those who had lost loved ones and were again reminded that death is inescapable, but for those who have put their trust in the Lord, it isn’t the end of life.  I wept as I thought of friends facing enormous health issues, realizing that my days are numbered too.

After church we decided to visit a church in the area we may move to.  We were gifted with another great sermon and a chance to fellowship with old and new friends.  We were then invited to stay for their church picnic and dined on Minnesota hot dishes, delicious desserts and great conversation.  Two church services in one day.  We must’ve needed it.

As lovely as that was, we had also left our dog at home in his kennel.  Almost seven hours later, we arrived home to a not-so-pleasant smell.  The wait was too much for the poor pup, so after a much needed bath, great trauma and humiliation, he had a long night of feeling sad.  Some days are just like that.

Our trials on this earth can be consuming at times.  Stuff happens!  We become confined, constrained and often humiliated or traumatized by the events of every day, but we can always rely on our God to have it all under control.  He is the same as He was yesterday, is today and will be forever.

I NEED HIS STRENGTH

There are so many times when I simply need God’s strength.  I cannot go through difficulties without it.  He sends His Spirit to give me comfort when I waiver.  He lifts me with His mighty hand when I feel I can go no further.

In life’s daily walk, we are faced with difficult decisions, trust issues, anger, fear, integrity, hopes, goals and with each of these, we can not survive alone.  Even when we have a spouse who supports us, we need the all knowing, ever present Creator to sustain us.

As I begin this day, Lord, give me the assurance that you will be with me through it.  Lead me as you will, for I know your purpose for my life is in your hands.  Protect me from those who betray or desert me and give me strength to overcome the world and my sinful flesh.   I trust in your design for my life.  Amen!

THANK YOU, LORD

ORIGINALLY POSTED ON ATIMETOSHARE.ME 8/24/14

Thank you, Lord, for giving me breath and life and for your gift of the Holy Spirit which has been working within me since my baptism. Each day you provide all that I need for my physical and spiritual needs. You hug me with your mighty arms and protect me from the evil one. You have a plan for my life even in my old age.

Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus. He lived a perfect life, showing by example how we should lead a servant’s life – always putting others before ourselves. My gratitude overflows because He took my place on the cross. He died so I might live and He conquered death by returning to life proving to me that I will also share eternity with Him.

Lord, thank you also for the trials I face each day. Thanks for planting confidence in my heart so I can overcome them. I have never suffered starvation or abuse, but I pray for those who have, so they may find peace through you – especially for those who are dying defending your name.

God, I have no gift to lay at your feet, but you treasure me more than gold. I cannot save myself, but you love me so much that you made my salvation possible. All I can do is give you my heart forever ad trust completely in you for my strength, my hope, my daily bread, my salvation. I know it is in the best possible hands! Amen.

FRUIT OF THE HARVEST

Golden fields of grain,

Wave freely in the hot August breeze,

Soon it will all be gathered,

Before the fields freeze,

The fruits of the harvest will soon grace our table,

The grapes will be gathered by hands strong and able,

Huge silos are filled for the long winter days,

When cattle surrender to winter’s cold gaze,

Our Lord will protect each one that calls on Him,

His bounty of plenty, He always plants within,

Our souls will be fed with the food that He gives,

His love does endure for as long as we live,

When death overtakes us, He’s still by our side,

With new bodies we’ll flourish, our pain will subside,

With our Jesus we’ll walk and we’ll never more stray,

Redeemed we will stand on that last judgment day.

R E S P E C T !

Respect-others1

Picture a world where life had no value; a place where brother fought against brother to the death; where unborn lives were snuffed out in an instant; where seniors were deemed useless and exterminated after a certain age; where children killed someone just for the fun of it. What a horrible place that would be and yet we are living in the midst of such a world.

Whatever happened to respect for human life? Whatever happened to consequences for bad actions? Whatever happened to the laws of God? The Ten Commandments were given to man to be a law for our lives and yet they seem to be stomped on daily, as life takes a back seat to pleasure and selfishness.

I am ashamed of what has happened within my own country. Guns are being blamed for taking lives rather than the people who pull the trigger. Children see violence as a thrill rather than it having any consequences. Abortion is a cop out for taking responsibility for poor choices, with no conscience about the murder of an unborn life.

Lord, help our nation to begin to look to your Word for answers again instead of within themselves. We need your law as well as your Gospel in our lives. Help us to remember to teach our children the value of life and the consequences of bad actions.  We must return to you and your law if we are ever to survive as a nation.  Amen!

IN THE DESERT

Being in the desert for 40 years had to be an incredible exercise in patience.  Even though the Israelites had obtained their freedom from slavery, their condition during that desert time was a series of highs and lows.  God had made Himself known to them, protected and provided for them throughout, but they continued to grumble and whine.

Kind of like us when we go through difficulties and hard choices in life.  How about enduring those things for 40 years?  Today, God reveals Himself to us through His Word.  We have immediate access to Him, through our Savior, Jesus.  We can depend on His enduring love and perfect plan for our lives – but still we grumble and whine.

When we discipline our children, it’s intended for their good.  God does the same thing with us.  He expects complete obedience to His commands.  Even Moses was unable to reach the promised land because He didn’t obey God’s specific directions.  Being sinners, we are incapable of doing this alone so we must rely on Jesus to strengthen us and intercede for us.

As light seems to be appearing at the end of our current dark tunnel, I feel that maybe it will soon be over, but the battle continues.  It’s a day by day process, which requires complete trust and obedience.

Dear Lord, Jesus, You alone have fulfilled the Law which God demands. I had nothing to do with that.  Because of your perfection, I know that my sins have been forgiven.  Help me now to walk in obedience to Him – to trust and let Him complete my journey in His time and by His will.  Amen!

QUIET TIME INTERRUPTED

Here i sit, yogurt smoothy in hand, trying to resurrect my quiet time with God.  Writing this blog has become my time to spend in close communication with my Creator.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been struggling with gigabytes, data usage and Internet service.  I never realized until today how important my time spent researching and digging into the Bible has become a part of my daily routine.  When I’m stifled by outside influences, it gets in the way – leaves me somewhat empty – makes me feel something is missing.

Our Bibles are packed away because of our house being up for sale.  I do have a Bible app on my phone which I use, but the hour or more time spent writing this blog has really more beneficial to my faith than to those I write to. It’s like keeping a journal I guess, but it also allows me time alone with God.

I’ve often thought of giving it up, but I’m certain it has become more than just spouting out words which are being addressed mainly to those who share my beliefs.  I know that God is using Me as His instrumen to bring reassurance and the truth of the gospel to those in need of it.

JOIN THE CIRCUS

When I was a kid, I wanted to run away and join the circus – a place where all things glittered and everything seemed perfect. In the center of all of it was the ringmaster, shouting out the next event. Of course almost every child feels that way once they’ve attended the big top, but it’s just an entertaining place to escape for a while.

That dream actually came true when I had the opportunity to work with the Cirque du Soliel as a voice coach a while ago. I was to work with one of the clowns who would be planted in the audience as a Minnesotan and brought on stage to act the buffoon. This was quite a task. In my 40 something years living in this state, I’ve never really acquired the dialect that seems so popular, except for an occasional “Ooh, Yah” or “dontchya know.” I’m from Wisconsin and we don’t talk like that.

I worked with this young man for a few weeks before the show went up. He was an Argentinian by birth whose English had been influenced by his French Canadian coworkers. Things went along well for a few days, but in rehearsals his voice always maintained the nasal quality often associated with the French.

One day it finally occurred to me. During the sketch, he was brought on stage and introduced to the audience. They placed a red nose on him and proceeded with the bit. Obviously the nose was impairing his speech. Once we adjusted the fake nose, he spoke perfect Minnesotan.

I learned two lessons from that incident. First, never look beyond your own nose for answers and don’t run away to join the circus. I was given two free passes to the show when it opened and, if you’ve ever been to one of their productions, you know what a gift that was.

Life can be a circus. There are clowns everywhere, wonderfully skilled athletes, beautiful costumes and lighting and music that enchants, but most of the time it’s pretty ordinary. We look for things to entertain, to help us forget about the hum drum, to escape for a while. However, reality always creeps back in and we realize there are still struggles, anxieties and messes that can’t be swept under the rug.

Fortunately God is in charge of every minute of it. Unlike the ringmaster – simply organizing and introducing another fantastic diversion – God has orchestrated every moment of our lives. He’s also with us through the long haul and even after death.

We can’t run away or hide from the ugliness of the world, but with Him our life can be so much more exciting and fulfilling. He makes it all worth living.

THE SWEAT OF YOUR BROW

th

If you go outdoors today for any reason, prepare to sweat.  I believe part of the wages of sin is sweat and have in these later years been more prone to it.  Today my husband, the artist, is completing a three day painting marathon in Hudson, Wisconsin.  Needless to say, I will not be going along on this adventure, but I ask that you all pray for his well being as this is how he makes his living and I know it will be by the sweat of his brow.

Paul is a true artist.  He began drawing and painting when he was just a boy.  His passion for the arts flourished in high school and he went on to college majoring in art.  His career took him through years of the very competitive advertising (Mad Man) business.  Later in his career, he created lovely works of sculpture and paintings to go into the homes and business of many.  These past few years he continues to WORK as an artist.  I say work, because many consider what he does as a hobby and it’s far from that – even though he obviously loves what he does.

So as the heat rises along with the humidity, I am confident that my husband will continue to do his work to the glory of God, who gave him the ability to praise Him in this special way.

“I am a poor man and of little worth, who is laboring in that art that God has given me in order to extend my life as long as possible.”  Michelangelo

MAN MADE OR GOD MADE?

11707598_10202885534577705_6968094902757579643_n

ART & POETRY BY PAUL & KATHY BOECHER©

When God made the first garden, He planted it with care,

He breathed new life within it for all the world to share,

The colors were so brilliant, and beauty blossomed forth,

He cultivated carefully and gave each one great worth,

When sin made its appearance the weeds o’er took the place,

They choked the life from everyone and made it dark and base,

When sin steps in, our broken hearts give way and start decaying,

Our consciences begin to die, we struggle with our praying,

It nibbles at our very soul and takes away our life,

It cuts into the heart of us, destroying us with strife,

The hidden darkness in us, soon rears it’s ugly head,

We have no where to turn to, we whither and we’re dead,

But hope abounds in Jesus, He’s done the work that’s needed,

He died for us and cleansed our souls, the ransom for us pleaded,

He won for us salvation and once again we’re free,

To bloom to full potential, He’s gained our victory,

A man can plant a garden, but it never will compare,

To that perfectly sown Eden, that God created there,

IS TRUE PEACE POSSIBLE?

peace-dove-web2

It seems each day brings more and more news of wars and terrorism.  Even in the safety of our  homes we are exposed to an evil world of hatred and anger.  It’s pretty hard to find any peace of mind when everything around you is anything but free from it.

It can be difficult to walk through life with perfect peace, but wars and rumors have been around ever since humanity fell into sin. People aren’t always satisfied with their own boundaries – many seek power by overtaking others and obtaining land – in some cases the call for a holy war becomes anything but holy.  People are destroyed, nations fall, calamity ensues and rationality takes a back seat.

So where do we go for peace when all of this is waging around us?  God tells us to come to Him.  He invites us to the security of His arms.  He cuddles us in His soft wings and let’s us know that we will be OK as long as we trust in Him.  Sounds too easy, doesn’t it?  Some might even say it’s foolish to believe in anything that isn’t right in front of your face.

As human beings we want to control things.  We don’t want to depend on someone else.  It seems useless to trust in something you can’t see, but that is exactly what faith is – believing something without any logical proof.  We may not be able to see God, but we have evidence of His existence in creation –  in the dawn of each day – in each birth that takes place – in the weather – in His Holy Word

We will never experience perfect peace in this world, but we can have a taste of it when we become acquainted with the Prince of Peace.

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY

MEDION DIGITAL CAMERA

Dear, Heavenly Father,  As time on earth ebbs, it’s easy to fall prey to the devil’s claim that our lives are over, that our lifetime of building has come to an end.  As I get older, I often feel those things happening.  My mind isn’t as sharp as it used to be.  My hearing is fading.  My energy is spent and tasks that once were easy, have become difficult and often undoable.

However, I know that you have my life all mapped out with my best interests always on your mind.  You knew before I even came into existence, where life would take me.  The ups and downs of life were placed there to strengthen my relationship with you and draw me closer.  The goals I set often seemed impossible, but you have always been at my side to carry me to each one.

As this day unfolds, I ask that you be with me and my husband as we face difficult decisions that will affect our future and our security.  I am confident that you will be with us as we muddle through yet another turning point in our lives.  Give us strength, discernment, wisdom and patience.  Clear the cobwebs from our decision making and make answers clear to us.

I ask this and all things in the name of your precious Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen!

A FIRM FOUNDATION

968890_4125844082740_744075662_n

ORIGINAL ART & POETRY BY PAUL & KATHY BOECHER©

A solid base with bones still strong.  A place where love and peace belong,

A fortress from the outside world.  A buttress where time still forgives,

The inner walls are cracked and dry.   Like aging skin they’re doomed to die,

The roof is in some disrepair.  The windows need some loving care,

In time those things will pass away, but firmly planted it will stay,

If love resumes with owners new, they can make their dreams come true,

A house is just a place you see, but when God’s in it, you’re set free,

To do the things that must be done, to make it shine and add some fun,

With God a house becomes a home,  He builds His love within each room,

If He’s the rock on which we build, our hearts with great joy are filled,

So turn to Him, the firm foundation, to give you hope and restoration..

LIFE IN CHRIST

8ad6e91edbe8de9e79149b2f4e631102

I love the imagery of being grafted into Christ.  It’s a beautiful picture of how, when we are brought to Jesus by the Holy Spirit, our broken, sinful bodies gain new life through Him.  Grafting is a process whereby new life sprouts when added to a strong living thing.

To think that we have a God who cares so much about us, loves us unconditionally, wants us to live abundant lives, knows our every need and provides it, hears our every prayer and answers them is more than comforting for the sinner.  We’ve all fallen short of His expectation of perfection and still He wants us to be a part of Him.

The grafting process requires cutting and a slow bonding to the main root.  None of us likes to go through difficulties, but to become one with God, we will face them.  We’ll be cut, bruised, put to the test, refined and burned, pushed and reshaped, but the outcome is fresh and renewed life through the Creator of all things.

When we meld our spirits with other sinners, we can find a support system that will not only build us up, but carry us through those tough times of life. We become a part of the communion of saints.  Latching on to Him as our mediator to God the Father, we can be assured of eternal life – a life where each day brings new growth and bounty.

So while we’re still alive and walking the face of the earth, it’s our responsibility to tell others about this wonderful gift.  Our world is in a terrible state.  Now is the time for restoration.

For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”  Esther 4:14

GRAFTED IN

ORIGINAL ART & POETRY BY PAUL & KATHY BOECHER©

A vine will truly flourish if more are grafted in,

The main root still does nourish the weaker ones within,

We all like sweet additions can gain and also give,

When Christ is at the center the more we all will live,

Attach yourself to Jesus, give him your very life,

He’ll hold you tight and strengthen you through all your earthly strife,

He’ll breathe His life into your heart, He’ll make your body whole,

He’ll lift you up to heaven and free your smitten soul,

He has a place prepared for us where we can cling forever,

And always be a part of Him, our Nurturer and Savior.

SUMMER SUN

189071_1007138637053_1402696_n

ORIGINAL ART & POETRY BY PAUL T. & KATHY BOECHER©

Bathed in a buttery softness of golden light,

Touched ever so lightly with God’s own breath,

A powerful animal pads across the horizon,

Burnished antlers glistening,

Exhalation visible in the early morning mist,

Soon his body will call out for ravenous scavenging to sustain,

Through the coming cold and icy winter,

But today,

He roams,

He lolls,

He rests

He lifts his majestic head to heaven,

And basks in the summer sun,

Enjoying every last second.

FEAR NOT!

2015-03-10-Isaiah-41-10

Fear is mentioned many times in the Bible. The phrase, “Do not be afraid” was spoken, when God’s angels announced the birth of the Savior to shepherds. The Psalms are loaded with references to fear in King David’s prayers. The epistles are also full of encouraging words about not being afraid.

Each day we face one kind of fear or another. We might fear growing older – we could fear taking a test we aren’t prepared for – we might be fearful of a medical diagnosis – we may be anxious about not doing well at a job interview. Our fears are real and God knows that. That’s why He continues to speak the words, “Do not be afraid,” throughout scripture.

This human emotion is one that faces everyone. When we’re afraid, we sometimes turn inward and don’t want the help of others. There are times when fears or phobias become so overwhelming they affect the way we live our lives. Our anxious moments can limit us – destroy our inner strength – paralyze us at times.

Over the past century, there have been studies on how to deal with these maladies through psychotherapy or medication, but the real prescription is in God’s Word. When He tells us not to be afraid, He is encouraging us to depend on Him in times of trouble. He’s reaching out His strong hands to lift us up out of the pit of despair.

We are so loved by Him that we can believe He is going to keep His word. He will never leave us – He will lift us up – He will give us the strength to carry on – He has provided an answer for our sinful condition. Praise be to Him for being our rock and fortress. We never have to be afraid of anything again! REALLY!
