40 days had passed since his brutally crushed body was raised from death and He appeared to His followers. Some thought He was a ghost, others doubted it was Him. In that short span of time, He proved that He truly had returned to them. He continued to prepare them for the work they would eventually do by the power of the Holy Spirit. He gave them the knowledge of how He had fulfilled the ancient prophesies regarding the Messiah. God’s walk as a man had come to an end. It was time for Him to return home.
Another of God’s mysteries was coming to pass. Many would ask – if He was God why did He have to go through all the suffering – why didn’t God simply declare us saved – why did He have to come in physical form – He’s God after all. None of it makes sense from a logical standpoint, but it was the only way that the curse of sin could be lifted. The ransom had to be paid by the only One without sin – the unblemished lamb – the sinless Son of God – God Himself.
How wonderful for us to realize that our life doesn’t end when we breathe our last breath. As a follower of the Son of God and Son of man, we have the assurance that we too will rise into heaven and will experience the perfection He originally planned for us!
A good reminder for us all. I think we tend to forget and go in our own way after Easter, thankfully the story continues!
