In the thirties, there was movie actress named Marlene Dietrich whose one most remembered quote was, “I vant to be alone.” I’m not sure if it was a movie quote or something she told the press to get rid of them. It can’t be easy being in the public eye, constantly being photographed and followed.
Miss Dietrich was born in Germany and maintained her German citizenship along with becoming a citizen of the United States. She was a great humanitarian. She housed German and French exiles during the War, providing financial support and even advocating their US citizenship. She came to America after doing silent films in Berlin and became one of the most popular figures of her time.
Even your private moments are not your own when you’re a public figure. Especially now when the media has assumed an in-your-face attitude with anyone of note. I feel sorry for those who decide to go into politics or any job that puts them under public scrutiny.
We all like our space and our quiet times, even if it’s only a short time in the morning before all the daily activity begins. Those little moments of reflection and peace can make all the difference in how our day goes. Using those occasions of contemplation can refresh us.
Maybe your quiet time is reading a book, or enjoying a walk in God’s creation. Maybe you’re like me and find solace digging in the dirt. Whatever it is, cherish those alone times and take advantage of them.
Help me, Lord, to use the quiet instances in my life to thank and praise you for all the blessings you’ve given me. You are the one who gives complete and perfect peace. Amen!
like you in the closet…alone daaaaling

Time in my garden, harvesting beans, digging in the dirt and chopping weeds. My time to spend with just God and me.
