Our house has been pretty free of the morning, noon and evening news for the past month or two. It’s been a refreshing change. There’s something about the news that puts us into a bad mood. There’s so much of it lately, a person could easily be swallowed up by the maddening sounds.
Living near a large metropolitan area, means daily crimes – which have escalated into serious injury and many times death. Gang activities flourish in this environment. Corruption is on every level – from government, to business and personal.
I try to tell myself that turning off the white noise is going to make it go away, but it doesn’t. In fact, I thought moving to a small town outside the city limits would change all that. I soon discovered that the ugliness of evil isn’t limited to a particular neighborhood.
We can try to run from it – tune it out – ignore it and even believe it doesn’t exist, but it creeps into every facet of life. The devil is like that. He sneaks around like a hungry animal, waiting for the kill. He doesn’t care how long it takes, as long as he wins. He will use every tool at his disposal to make it happen and is devious enough to make us believe we aren’t doing anything wrong.
Our current world is not much different than it’s been before. From the day mankind decided to go his own way, through the encouragement of the devil, it’s been a downhill slide.
God still loves his children – in spite of their disobedience, turning backs on Him, thinking themselves to be above God. In fact He provided the answer to bring them back to His arms. He knew about this plan at the beginning and it was the greatest act of love ever. He sent His Son to take on the sins of the world. Through His death, sin would be crushed forever for those who returned to God and asked for forgiveness.
White noise is going to be amazingly loud on judgment day. The trumpets of heaven will blare. The King of Glory will return and take an accounting of every life that ever lived. Will you be ready for His final judgment? It’s really so simple. Just tune into His Words to us through the Bible. Within those pages, lay the promises of an eternity in a new paradise.
Bill Bright, co-founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, now Cru, said that if we do not obtain a balance between the news and our Bible Reading, we will become depressed. Thank you for this post.

He tells us “the time is at hand.” It’s not hard to believe when we take a look around us. And yes, I’ve been free of all the news and stuff for most of the summer and it is nice.

Ignorance can be bliss in this case, right?

My husband doesn’t watch it either. We both inhabit a large closet and only come out when necessary 😀
