I grew up in a day and age when vaccinations were commonplace. Before we entered school we were already immunized against small pox, DPT and later Polio, Measles and Mumps. For a while there, I was a pin cushion. When my husband entered the Air Force he was again stabbed with an assortment of live bacteria to protect his immune system against diseases he might, but probably wouldn’t encounter. So for us, getting a shot isn’t anything new. However, there has been a lot of confusion over this newest of vaccines against COVID19. By the time everyone is vaccinated, the vaccine itself will probably be obsolete. Since I’m not a scientist, but often feel like a sheep being led to the slaughter, it’s really not up to me to make any evaluation. However, last Friday, my husband and I spent our date night doing our part for America and we got our COVID shots.
That night I had a series of dreams which included a herd of buffalo stampeding by the thousands and falling off a cliff. I dreamt of growing additional body parts, becoming encrypted with a chip which would decipher all my thoughts, words and deeds. I felt remorse over getting the shot, but felt a bit patriotic for doing so. The next day, I was exhausted. I thought it might be a side effect from the shot, but now believe it was because of all the dreams and sleeplessness of the night before. I don’t have any additional appendages. I’m still upright and alive. I didn’t fall off a cliff, although I still wonder if herd immunity is nothing more than a herd of the blind following the leader who also happens to be blind.
This pandemic has put my creative juices into overdrive and my imagination has always been a little over the edge anyway, so nothing new is really going on. Since I grew up being punctured with various vaccines, I don’t feel this is any different than what I grew up with. I’ll let you know further when the rash clears up and I stop coughing.
Ouch! You have brought back painful memories. I have been a pincushion upon three major life changes. The first was the school days shots that you mentioned. The first time I ever argued with a doctor was upon the first Salk vaccine. I had just taken the last of the polio shots when they announced the sugar cubes. The doctor simply shook his head and thought I was the only child to ever complain about eating a lump of sugar. I was worried that the two vaccines my fight it out inside me. Then, since that was recorded by the doctor and not on the yellow paper of an international immunization record, I had every one of those plus a few again in college, preparing to go to Vietnam – although I never made it there. Then, even with my shot record in hand, when I went to work at my last job, we had to be prepared to go anywhere. I then had all the Hepatitis shots, cholera (although they don’t do that one anymore), typhoid (I think that was four huge pills taken every other day), yellow fever (another one that is rarely given anymore). My only time of getting an air gun shot was a flu shot in the Army – step forward, stand at attention, and if you flinch, you may need stitches, as the air gun might slice instead of puncturing. BUT COVID?!?!?! Still on a few waiting lists and only one sends excuses via e-mail.

I grew up as an USAF brat, and I was in the military when President Gerald Ford required us to get the swine flu vaccination. It was a political decision, and everyone knew it, but we grimly followed orders.
We are in an era where we can now prepare vaccinations for less dangerous viruses that mutate rapidly. Compare COVID-19 with smallpox. Will our COVID-19 vaccinations be the end of COVID-19. Probably not, but one quarter of the people who got smallpox died from it.
The primary headache with the COVID-19 vaccination is that for younger people the risk from the vaccination may outweigh the risk of getting the actual disease. Hopefully, out Dear Leader won’t bother with vaccinating children, which is what the $@#%* teachers unions want.

Congrats, Kathy! The vaccine rollout is slow here in Canada because it’s all imported from Europe. But then, there have been far fewer infections here per capita. I expect it will be April or May before I can get my shot.

I didn’t really want to have it – the skeptic in me. But I feel glad that I did. Now I have to wait until March 23 for the next one.

We’ve not gotten it yet— plus I have a childhood friend who is a doctor and told us DO NOT—
But the way things are going, I fear we will all be required to verify that we got the shot otherwise we will be forbidden to travel or do simple things like shop etc—

I was hesitant to do so at first and then some friends were looking out for us and found a place that had a waiting list for people who could come at the end of the day at a moments notice and they could use vaccine that hadn’t been used, because people didn’t show up. I guess if I’m going to die from it, it doesn’t really matter, because that means I’ll go to heaven sooner, but God is in charge of all that too.
