LAND OF THE FREE

All the hubbub of standing for our National Anthem at any sporting event is taking the spotlight big time.  Who would’ve thought that our nation, built on the blood of brave men and women, would be called out for singing her praises.  We have the downing of monuments to war heroes, art being removed from public buildings because of their offensive nature of war.  If we merely erase these things from our history, it will never take away the memory of those who built our country.

When we become so enraged over something like this, it makes me wonder if we have gone off the deep end and became a nation of sheep – those blindly following the one in front of them to their death.  I’m not talking about our current president.  Our past leader did so much damage to our national honor, by his own disrespect and apology for our country.

The Star Spangled Banner was written on the morning of September 14, 1814.  Francis Scott Key had a day earlier boarded the British flagship which was planning an attack on Fort McHenry in the Baltimore harbor the next day.  Because the plan had been revealed to him, he posed a threat to the attack, so the British returned him to his own ship under guard.  He remained under arrest during the shelling of Fort McHenry.

Key was an amateur poet and as the battle ensued, he was moved to write the words to the Star Spangled Banner.  The words became a monument to the bravery of those under attack.  In it he speaks of freedom – which has been achieved in America today.  We often hang on to past hatred and fears, because we think they’ll resurface if we don’t constantly remind ourselves of them.  To eliminate them entirely, we’re hoping to cover up the pain of the past.

Our nation is so easily moved by controversy.  It seems to be a pattern which fuels our every waking moment.  We have more important things to concern ourselves with at the moment.  Our prayers are necessary now more than ever.  The evil that is penetrating the core of our existence will eat us up if we let it.

Our God is much stronger than the evil of Satan.  He has already been conquered by the death and resurrection of our Savior, but there is work to do.  The time is ripe for us to start sharing this good news for all humanity, before it’s too late.

THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER – VERSE 3 BY FRANCIS SCOTT KEY

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

We are the land of the free and the home of the brave, now more than ever before in our history.  It’s time to stand tall for our country.

About atimetoshare.me

As I reach the end of my years, I find I have a lot of good information stored up in this old decrepit mind of mine. If I don't write it all down, it may vanish and no one will have the advantage of my thoughts. This is why this blog exists. I love the Lord, Jesus with all my heart and soul. I know I'm undeserving of all He's done for me, but I also know that His love is beyond my comprehension. I've always wanted to write. I never kept diaries, but tucked my thoughts in my head for future reference. I use them now in creating stories, plays, poetry and my blog. I continue to learn every day. I believe the compilation of our time spent with God will have huge affect on the way we live. I know I'm a sinner and I need a Savior. I have One through Jesus, Christ. My book, "Stages - a memoir," is about the seven stages of life from the perspective of a woman. It addresses all the things girls and women go through in life as they travel it with Jesus, and it is available on Amazon.com.

Allow me to be a lone voice of possibly unpopular lack of reason.First, the thing that was being protested against and of itself was not without basis; our history of race relations has been abysmal overall. Second, protesting the flag over it is stupid. It’s not the government who acts like bigots, but people. Thirdly, I personally find much offense in people disrespecting our flag; I volunteered to go get hurt or killed for that flag. Lastly, I would also be the very last person to suggest that they don’t have every right to do whatever they want to do, and I would never suggest any official action be taken to stop them. If their teams want to fire them, that would be their right based on possible economic impact to their business. Ok, this is lastly LOL. Trump should have kept out of it, and the rest should have ignored him. Ok really, for real lastly…..even though I find it personally abhorrent we need to remember that the instant we try to stop this stuff through official means? Then, the lives of those who gave them up to protect that very right were wasted.

I love you dear sister, and thanks for the space!

I love you too Wally and agree for the most part. I’m concerned how enraged we get over silly stuff like this while our congress and senate twiddle there thumbs over the big stuff. Maybe Trump realizes how easily distracted America is. The race card holds no merit here. Trump is talking about respecting America, something which has been lacking for a long time. I am grateful for your service to her.

  3. like Oneta says—we need to be rams vs sheep—
I too find great offense in disrespecting our flag.
I also find great offense over those who make gobs of money to play the games of children using that arena to be disrespectful—like Odell Beckham acting like a dog urinating in the end zone and has implied that was for Trump—this is what we want our kids to watch and these are the men with want them to emulate????
    We got troubles!!!
