Today is September 23, 2017 – a day that should be the ending of all the strife in the world, all the evil, all the pain, every last person and the elimination of planet Earth. So say the astronomers. Their reasoning has to do with the autumnal equinox and the alignment of the planets and the stars.
How often do these doomsday claims occur? I can recall at least four of them in my lifetime. Since men started looking for signs in the heavens, they’ve been trying to figure out God’s mind. Since the beginning of time, humanity has been attempting to be on the same level as God and sometimes believing they know more than Him.
We’re told in scripture to look to the sky for signs, but also to be aware of the signs that we face daily – signs like wars and rumors of war, inhumanity towards one another, lascivious and immoral behavior, earthquakes, flooding and destructive wind. The book of Revelation tells of many of the final signs that will occur before the Lord returns in glory.
For us to try to figure out God’s future for this planet is really futile. Jesus taught that we do not know the hour or the day. It will come when we don’t expect it. I remember when the millennial came to an end and it was supposed to be the end of the world. There was the Mayan calendar of final doom. When the world is in such a mess, it’s probably normal for us to want it to be over.
Today, the signs are there. We’re in the midst of horrible weather and natural disasters. Immorality has become the norm along with political correctness. Abortion has become an every day event. Sex before marriage is fine. Commitment to another person, a job, a family, is lacking. We are witnessing a tug of war between America and her allies and a tyrant who wants to take over the world.
Is it time? I don’t know and I don’t believe anyone else does either. The thing I do know is that we must be ready at any moment for Christ’s return. Now is the time to ask Him for forgiveness and prepare for that day within our daily walk.
I believe the prophesies of the Old Testament have been fulfilled. Christ was born, lived, died and rose again to pay for my sins. That’s the only prophesy that saves us. If we believe it, we will inherit paradise. What are your thoughts?
Very very excellent article Kathy!
The only unfulfilled prophecy I can think of right now that needs to happen prior to Christ’s return is the revealing of the antichrist in the temple (2 Thessalonians 2), and that tribulation (Matthew 24, and Mark 13).
We don’t know when Christ will return, and the world is getting more evil by the day.
So we should live every second as if Christ will return right now…because we could die at any time, and we all will face judgement then.
Keep up the great work. 😃

Thanks Leo. I agree that we all need to be prepared . The only means is through Jesus and our repentance. Thanks for your encouragement.

Next to finding out God was real and loved me, my greatest joy was to read the “happy ending” in the final book of Revelations. For me that is that important thing, I can watch a scary movie if I know it has a happy ending, so also with the world around me. Knowing exactly where we are on God’s timeline is not as important as knowing how it ends.

Amen. Thanks for making that point. We win in the end!

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you wrote, but especially the last paragraph. All the prophecies have been fulfilled in Christ–if he appeared among the clouds this afternoon, no one could say, “Wait–you forgot to keep this promise first!”
That noted, the world actually ended on October 10, 2012. Everyone was so hyped about the Mayan apocalypse that they didn’t notice. J.

Haha. That’s why we can’t rely on our own interpretation. The price for our ransom was paid in full by Jesus and we will never die if we only have faith

I think we’ve had at least four of these the end is near scenarios this year alone!!
But I’m with you Kathy—-the Prophesies have been coming to pass since before Jesus was born…playing out within mankind and the earth, as Salvageable notes, with little to no notice or heeding from the very ones the Prophets spoke….
As we continue to look for and await His promised return—lest no one fall asleep at the watchtowers……

The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light (Romans 13:11-12).

It will happen in a moment…which one? Don’t know but as you so aptly put ours is to work now to spread the gospel and be ready.

Well, here we are on the 24th of September and we’re still here. I know it will happen when we least expect it and that’s precisely why we need to be ready now and let others know too. Thanks for your comment.

I hate all of this desperate trying to tie in what we seen on the news and pin down a timetable of events. Clearly all that needs to happen in order for our Lord to come back has happened. Now, we just await the Father’s decision on when that will be…then His Son will come back and collect those that are His. Meanwhile, we have more important things to do than wonder and fret over when that will be, I could be before I even finish this sentence(obviously it was not, or if any one is reading and it did, then not so good for you!) Anyway, in the meantime, we were given instructions on how to occupy ourselves until that time, and one of those was no trying to figure out when. There are still lost souls in need of salvation.

And we’re going to do something about that, right Wally?
