It’s October. The month of howling things and stuff that goes bump in the night. The skies have been ashen grey for a couple of days and we’re not about to see the sun for a while. When temperatures drop dramatically from the 70s with dewpoints in the 60s, to the 50s and chilly winds, it’s enough to shock anyone’s constitution. It’s time to heat up the apple cider and hit the worn off keys of my computer’s keyboard. Writing is a journey and a cold, dreary, dank and depressing day can be turned around instantly when you get in the groove.
I’ve been living in my Little House on the Freeway for ten years now. Time has swiftly crushed the years and here I am. So much has happened in that time. We found this little old farmhouse and fell in love with it. It was built in 1875 – rebuilt in the 1940s after a tornado almost leveled it. It was one of the original homes in Anoka. So far, there have been no ghost sightings, which I didn’t really expect. In this sweet little dwelling, I’ve grown older. I’ve watched my grandchildren grow into young adults. I’ve experienced time with my first great grandson. I found a theatre in the community to continue my love for writing and performance. My husband found an art center located a couple blocks from us and was able to teach art to many. We celebrated 60 years of marriage. We made this place our home. We spent those ten years filling the house with love, caring, medical issues, growing old together, sharing family time and almost two years ago, my husband left his spot on the couch for a room in the heavenly realms.
Someone recently asked me if I would ever publish some of my blog posts into a book. I had to tell the truth. I am not one for rejection, so I’ve long given up on that route. I keep writing my blog and have for 13 years. It is my way to evangelize while doing what I love to do -writing. Maybe someday my thoughts and words will be published, but not by me. Like I said, I’m not one for rejection. That’s why I love Jesus so much. He never rejects us. So, l I continue to write for Him, for myself and for those who are willing to read it. I am hopeful that through my words, even one person will come to know the love of Jesus.
There are many thoughts on how to deal with aging. Mine are pretty simple. I believe God has a plan for my life. He knows when my time for heaven will come. He loved me so much that He died for me. He defeated Satan and his army of minions. He was raised back to life and returned to His followers to prove He’d risen from death. He ascended into heaven 40 days later. He will come again to judge the world. While I wait for Him, I stay involved in as many activities as I can without breaking my body. I’ve learned to step away when necessary. I’ve rarely experienced writer’s block. There’s always something to write about. As we age, let’s remember that our lives are still filled with purpose because of what our Almighty God has done for us.
THANK YOU, JESUS, FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS & MORE TO COME!
