ART & POETRY BY PAUL & KATHY BOECHER©
I’m not sure of the location of this painting by Paul, but it could be someone’s home or possibly an event center in a park. I’ve always had trouble painting buildings, but Paul seems to get it right each time. Maybe that’s why he was the teacher and I the student – along with many others. He knew about perspective – lights and shadows – implications of someone within and everything necessary to make the painting come to life. A house, no matter what size, can be measured by what goes on within its walls.
A house is just a dwelling place, a place to sleep and eat,
A set of rooms to roam about, to gather and to greet,
Each filled with lath and plaster, with paint and other things,
It soon becomes inhabited and that’s when life begins,
The walls could tell us stories of who these people were,
By things they said, the hugs and joys and words that would occur,
Of broken hearts, of emptiness, of loss and loneliness,
Of joyfulness and goals achieved, of peace and happiness,
It’s just a simple shelter made of brick or wood or stone,
But when a family lives there, it soon becomes a home.
THANK YOU, JESUS, FOR ANOTHER DAY!

Your line that a house can be measured by what goes on within its walls stayed with me. Paul’s eye for light and shadow really does make the windows feel lived in, and I love hearing you describe him as the teacher. It made me think about our bodies in the same way, less about the frame and more about the life inside it. Feldenkrais lessons sometimes feel like walking slowly through the rooms of yourself, noticing which ones have gone quiet and letting a little light back in. Thank you for sharing his work.
