It’s Tuesday . . . right? I think I went to church two days ago. I know the breakfast club is meeting this morning and I have a telephone appointment today so I can’t go. Yesterday we had to put the garbage out for pickup today. My clock says 7 AM, but it’s still dark outside. Add to that, it’s cloudy with a chance of rain so the sun can’t be seen. I think I’m going to be 84 this year, but I’m not sure. You know, it’s bad enough getting old with a memory in decline, but having to add daylight savings time to the mix really leaves me feeling like the end is near.
The clocks were turned back two days ago. I’m not complaining, because this forces me to sleep a little longer in the morning. When I was younger, I could stay up all night. Even when my kids were younger, I stayed up all night. Now the only thing that wakes me from my slumber is one or two trips to the bathroom. After retirement, I my biological clock got all mixed up and I started going to bed at nine and rising with the sun. Isn’t it funny how we become creatures of habit? What if we slept all day and rose with the moon? I guess we’d be considered children of the night.
My real question is what happens to that hour we lose in spring and get back in the fall? God arranged time when He created the world. In the beginning, He separated the light from the darkness and made the first day. Native Americans laughed when daylight savings was originated. “Only the government would believe you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom and get a longer blanket.” Why would anyone think it would make a difference? Apparently, it was initiated to help the farmers get more hours of daylight during the planting and harvesting seasons. What about the cows? I mean, they had to get confused just like the rest of us. Their milking time would get all messed up.
Many songs have been written about time that might suit this annual event. “Time on my hands; Time After Time; If I Could Turn Back Time; Time Flies; Doin’ Time; Killin’ Time; I Didn’t Know What Time it Was;” and hundreds more. From my point of view, we shouldn’t be messing with what was originally designed perfectly, but then we don’t always heed that call. In fact, mankind is responsible for all things wrong in our world so we should trust that God knows what He’s doing and not interfere. So there!

Good one!

I’m fully in favor of no time change. In Canada only my birth province of Saskatchewan does not join in the folly of the twice annual time change. This year British Columbia is also switching to no time change. Maybe other jurisdictions will begin to do the same. Or so we can hope.

The time changes get sooner every year. What’s the point?

I’m an old farm girl and we laughed at the time change as much as the Native Americans because we were up before the sun every day to catch every minute of daylight. My mom said it was so doctors could play golf after work lol I think they just did it because they could, controlling people are like that…no one can change Gods times or seasons. He appoints them and we are subject to them, period. When He decides to change them, no one will be thinking too much of themselves..but the clock change is hard on us and I really never adjust. I’m always happy when our measuring stick realigns with the sun..

It really doesn’t serve any purpose then – does it?
