AI VERSUS GOD

” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4-5

I am not a scientist. I am not a theologian. I’m certainly not an intellectual. I am a creation of an Almighty God who has breathed life into me. My thoughts and actions are not stellar. I have a long way to go in that department. My journey has taken me in lots of directions and given me obstacles to overcome, battles to fight, relationships to nourish and share and so much more. My lifetime – 82 years of it – has definitely been a work in progress. I would venture to say that every human being has gone through much the same thing. To create another me or another you, would be such a complex endeavor, that it would never match that which was originally made by an all knowing God.

As we hear about artificial intelligence – an oxymoron of sorts – I can’t help wondering if we are on another trip into a realm that we have no control over. We can make cookie cutter images of things, but can we sort through all the intricacies of a human life so perfectly, that every detail is a mirror image of the original? There are bound to be things forgotten, seemingly unimportant or unnecessary. A carbon copy of the original is going to be flawed in some way. As the technology of today has advanced in the minds of men, are we on the brink of trying to become God? This was the question that the devil placed before Eve when he put doubt in her mind and that of her husband.

In my posts this week, I plan to address the question and hope that others will enlighten me. Like I said, I’m not an expert on any of this. Yet, I believe that whenever we try to place ourselves in God’s shoes, we’re inviting disaster. We can never even come close to His power, His omniscience nor His consistency in our lives. As a grandma of three young adults who are currently starting their own life journeys, I’ve seen so much danger in the technology of today. I’ve also seen the benefits of this knowledge and how it can help humanity. It’s kind of like a double-edged sword. On one side it can be used for good and on the other – evil is lurking right around the corner.

Those who hope in God will grow in wisdom and strength. I may be naive, but I truly believe that God is in control of all things in my life. His hand is guiding me. His power is strengthening me. His eternal knowledge is beyond human comprehension. The world is in His hands. This I know is true, because God has spoken to us through His Holy Word, the Bible.

About atimetoshare.me

As I reach the end of my years, I find I have a lot of good information stored up in this old decrepit mind of mine. If I don't write it all down, it may vanish and no one will have the advantage of my thoughts. This is why this blog exists. I love the Lord, Jesus with all my heart and soul. I know I'm undeserving of all He's done for me, but I also know that His love is beyond my comprehension. I've always wanted to write. I never kept diaries, but tucked my thoughts in my head for future reference. I use them now in creating stories, plays, poetry and my blog. I continue to learn every day. I believe the compilation of our time spent with God will have huge affect on the way we live. I know I'm a sinner and I need a Savior. I have One through Jesus, Christ. My book, "Stages - a memoir," is about the seven stages of life from the perspective of a woman. It addresses all the things girls and women go through in life as they travel it with Jesus, and it is available on Amazon.com.

I have been having such a problem with Facebook. Not any other network They even said they made a mistake with one my articles….took it down…put it back immediately but off and on, I can’t share to groups. I keep sending emails to their support center but this is what happens when when people use technology to demonstrate evil.

The expression “artificial intelligence” is primarily used to sell computers and software. The notion that we can actually build a truly intelligent computer is a stretch.

Computers execute instructions. detailed instructions. If a computer is not given the instruction to do something, it does not do it. So, computers perform simple, repetitive tasks well, but computers are stymied by tasks that they have not been programmed to perform.

Learning is a very complex process. That requires the programmer to anticipate in advance what the computer will be required to learn. The programmer has to anticipate what kind of data the computer will receive, what the computer will do with that data, what kind of feedback the computer will receive after processing that data, and how the computer will improve its processing. That can require a huge amount of complex programming code. Supposedly, AI systems are starting to program themselves, but such programs are only likely to work on narrowly defined problem sets. Using AI generated code for a general purpose AI system will most likely result in code that is extremely difficult to debug.

I suppose one could argue that nearly every advancement of civilization has offered the potential for good and evil, beginning with the wheel! We do need God’s guidance to know the best way to proceed as each controversial development comes along. I agree with you, that when we try to become gods, we’re in dangerous territory. For example, the king of Babylon proclaimed, “I will raise my throne above the stars of God . . . I will make myself like the Most High” (Isaiah 14:13b, 14b). God guaranteed the defeat of Babylon (vv. 22-23), and it fell to the Medes and Persians in 539 B.C.

  4. Dear Kathy, the older I have been blessed to serve our Father here (85 years) the more He reveals the difference, the contrasts, and the extremes of His kingdom and the kingdom of the world, with its rulers and strongholds. Years ago, I lived in terror at the power of the enemy, not wanting to hear of any new thing men were inventing and the world was lusting for. I have to admit that I have used the internet for much of my research without realizing where it was leading and how dependent I was becoming. As Strong’s Concordance became heavier, bible gateway.com became the easier and quicker to maneuver. I have come to an impasse after researching AI power and refuse to use it in writing. There are many Youtube presentations from those who have been active in putting AI together. Elon Musk has one of the most informative, but there are many others who, too, warn of the dangers for the future, because it is not being managed for the good of mankind. One who is experienced in its beginning and operations says “AI is alive” seemingly already having a mind of its own. I have wanted to address this as you have on my blog, but have not done this. But just to add; AI is not the most to be feared, but men who do not know God, who have the power of intellect that God gives all men. They continue to build a modern Tower of Babel (or many towers). We know that a final day will come when the Lord will show His power over all. Then all will bow and confess that He is Lord to the glory of our Father. We must continue to praise and glorify Him and pray for Him to show the power of His presence to and through His people. The proud will fall before the humble who remain faithful to Him. Blessings for you and Paul in this stage. of our spiritual warfare — to His glory and our joy in Him.

Thanks for your comments. It seems that the devil manipulates whenever change occurs. With God at our head we have nothing to fear because through Him all things work for good for those who place their trust in him🌼

  5. People worship digital technology already and I fear they are creating an Almighty digital god in AI. It is just another form of idol worship, worshipping the work of their own hands. The over-riding culture has become digital neo-pagan. There truly is nothing new under the sun.

Yes I am beginning to understand that Ecclesiastical verse more each day. Things change their packaging but what’s inside remains the same. Constant battle with the devil and his minions. Helps us look forward to eternity with God.

  6. I agree that our journey with technology shares both its blessed light and abyss of darkness. May our own path take the high road, found in God’s divine intelligence. Blessings Kathy.
