Many years ago, Carol King wrote a tribute to friendship in her song “You’ve Got a Friend.” When things are going bad and it seems like nothing is ever going to get better, it is good to know that there is someone who cares about us. Carol was writing about earthly friends, but sometimes we might even find disappointment in them. There is only one friend we can truly count on in times of trouble; in times of disaster; in times of pain and fear; in times of a hurting heart; all the time. His name is Jesus and all we have to do is call out His name.
When you’re down and troubled
And you need a helping hand
And nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest nights. You just call out my name,
And you know where ever I am
I’ll come running, oh yeah baby
To see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
All you have to do is call
And I’ll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You’ve got a friend.
Our forever friend is Jesus, but the friends we’re given by God, are a gift beyond measure. They can be your lifeline when problems assail you – your support when you feel hopeless or lost – and when you share the same faith, they can lift you up when you’re afraid or tough decisions need to be made. Praise God for placing these angels in your life and lean on them when you need them.
Kathy, your post reminds us of how God uses relationships in our lives. Indeed, we have an eternal friend who will never forsake us.
