A child’s laughter is one of the sweetest sounds in the world. Laughter from an elderly person with no teeth can be just as gratifying. Laughter can also indicate embarrassment, frustration or even panic. Laughter can trigger all kinds of emotions, but one thing is for sure – it usually makes you feel good.
I grew up in a family where laughter was a necessity. We didn’t have much of monetary value. We moved often. My dad was the only guy in the house and suffered with many of his own demons, but enjoyed a good belly laugh or two – usually after consuming several beers. My mom suffered from many health issues. I truly believe that had we not maintained a good sense of humor, we would all have succumbed to deep depression.
Joy and laughter actually create a feeling of well being and good health. That might not mean much when your body is burning with pain. It’s not necessarily smart to joke with someone who is on their deathbed, but it has been known to help.
Some folks I know wear a permanent frown. Some have become defeated by the ugliness of the world. I’ve seen anxiety and worry place a mask of tragedy on a person’s countenance. Even the seemingly happiest people in the world may be victims of a lack of true joy in their lives. Their spirit has become crushed and is destroying them internally.
I’m not suggesting we walk around with a fake smile on our face, but when we realize the gift we have received from God, our hearts are not only grateful, but our lives will take on new meaning as well.
Proverbs 17:22 A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
My dad loved his beer also, but he was what some call a “happy drunk” that was when he would play with us, lift us up, dance around, I have happy memories of my childhood. I will say this, when he was dying and I was already in the Traditional Catholic Church, I wanted him to give up his beer, and a day before his death, he told me not to give him any more beer because it tasted bitter. So God did answer my prayer. He died making the sign of the Cross and was resigned to God’s Will.
God forgives when we ask Him for forgiveness.

And sometimes at the last minute. For example, the thief on the cross.

I had a friend one time who said her arthritis was caused by “a drying of the bones” caused by unforgiveness. So she forgave; the arthritis left. Might be worth a try. That Bible is pretty smart.

They may put me in a home if I laughed for no reason, but, hey!!! I’d be laughing.
