Being in the desert for 40 years had to be an incredible exercise in patience. Even though the Israelites had obtained their freedom from slavery, their condition during that desert time was a series of highs and lows. God had made Himself known to them, protected and provided for them throughout, but they continued to grumble and whine.
Kind of like us when we go through difficulties and hard choices in life. How about enduring those things for 40 years? Today, God reveals Himself to us through His Word. We have immediate access to Him, through our Savior, Jesus. We can depend on His enduring love and perfect plan for our lives – but still we grumble and whine.
When we discipline our children, it’s intended for their good. God does the same thing with us. He expects complete obedience to His commands. Even Moses was unable to reach the promised land because He didn’t obey God’s specific directions. Being sinners, we are incapable of doing this alone so we must rely on Jesus to strengthen us and intercede for us.
As light seems to be appearing at the end of our current dark tunnel, I feel that maybe it will soon be over, but the battle continues. It’s a day by day process, which requires complete trust and obedience.
Dear Lord, Jesus, You alone have fulfilled the Law which God demands. I had nothing to do with that. Because of your perfection, I know that my sins have been forgiven. Help me now to walk in obedience to Him – to trust and let Him complete my journey in His time and by His will. Amen!
