As pies bubble in our ovens and all sorts of treats are prepared for the big feast – we join in thanksgiving for the bounty in our lives. We may even bring a meal to someone in need or take items to a food shelf. What we often forget to do is thank God for His most important gift to us – Salvation through His Son, Jesus.
After dinner is finished, some will face the flat screen TV for a day of football while others head off to shop for the best early deals on Christmas gifts.
Many will never experience a great feast. Many will find it difficult to keep warm because they have no place to live or no coat to wear. Some will eat to excess but still not be full.
God is with us in good times and bad. He promises never to leave us. Even if we have only a small crust of bread to eat – give thanks. If our jobs are at stake – if we are suffering from depression – if it seems that there is no hope – give thanks. When our bank account is full – when our health is great – when life holds promise – give thanks.
No matter what our circumstances, we should at all times give thanks to the Lord. He never changes. His promises are always kept. He loves us even though we don’t deserve it. Wherever – whenever – give thanks to the Lord – His love endures forever!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
