IS OUR FREEDOM WASHING AWAY?

The picture I’ve chosen today shows just how fragile our freedom is – how it can be washed away in the sweep of a wave or the winds of time.  This past weekend we celebrated the birthday of one of the greatest countries on earth and the only thing that really gave me goose bumps over the past few days was to sing “God Bless Our Native Land,” at the end of our church service yesterday – the final line being, “God save the state.”

I am proud to be an American, but I am not proud of what’s happened to my country over the past several years.  When 9/11 occurred, I felt an urgency to go out and buy a flag because of my love of this nation.  We sang many patriotic songs in a special church service that week.   I was somewhat inspired by the words of our leaders, but the real inspiration came when I saw Americans coming together to help each other – when I saw the flag at half-staff for the many victims of that tragedy – when I heard “Amazing Grace” being played day after day – when I realized that the American spirit of hope and freedom were still active I our society.  That was almost 13 years ago and as I see what’s happened over that short span of time, it really makes me sad.

We have seen a growing government and the general population becoming more and more dependent on it (many times out of necessity.)  We are losing many of our basic freedoms daily.   The world around us is suffering too. The cost of living makes it almost impossible to survive on the income of only one job and that  market is suffering, even though the media would like us to believe otherwise.

Our founders wanted to be sure that this new country would survive for a long time.  They were tired of the chains of tyranny.  They wanted to be independent thinkers and doers.   It was a place where opportunity abounded and the little guy could build something for his family and future generations.  We have in a way lost some of those basic freedoms.

I pray that the American spirit never dies, but like most civilizations before us, who have lost sight of the One True God, our nation may also get lost in the history books.  We have something worth fighting for though and I know that God loves America.  We must be careful as citizens not to take her for granted.  Like sin infests our souls, the devil is also alive and kicking.  He would love nothing better than for us to lose sight of our God in this nation of ours.

So where does our freedom truly lie?

Galatians 5:1 says,  ” We have freedom now, because Christ made us free. So stand strong. Do not change and go back into the slavery of the law.”

About atimetoshare.me

As I reach the end of my years, I find I have a lot of good information stored up in this old decrepit mind of mine. If I don't write it all down, it may vanish and no one will have the advantage of my thoughts. This is why this blog exists. I love the Lord, Jesus with all my heart and soul. I know I'm undeserving of all He's done for me, but I also know that His love is beyond my comprehension. I've always wanted to write. I never kept diaries, but tucked my thoughts in my head for future reference. I use them now in creating stories, plays, poetry and my blog. I continue to learn every day. I believe the compilation of our time spent with God will have huge affect on the way we live. I know I'm a sinner and I need a Savior. I have One through Jesus, Christ. My book, "Stages - a memoir," is about the seven stages of life from the perspective of a woman. It addresses all the things girls and women go through in life as they travel it with Jesus, and it is available on Amazon.com.

It is the same in every country. Canada is no longer a free country either.

I agree, but the minute we let government get so big that everyone is dependent on them, we lose more of our freedom. I pray that never happens.

      • I totally agree with you…I was woken up at 4am last night with a real urgency to pray about some things one thing was our nation…sadly I would say instead of the “church” influencing the world I feel the world is influencing the “church”, the obvious and closest for me would be how my husband was influenced by the world 😦 When the bible talked about “the great falling away I never thought of it as hitting those so near and dear to me…many people near and dear to me have totally abandoned the faith, my heart aches knowing that the Prophecies of the bible are coming to fruition… there is a small remnant…I pray for mercy… I know he is slow to anger, but I feel he already has been so merciful, iniquity is increasing and hearts are waxing cold…so many scriptures run through my mind, but we can read the prophets writing in the bible and I so see history repeating itself…so sad. psalm 55:19 God will give ear and humble them,
he who is enthroned from of old, Selah
        because they do not change
        and do not fear God.

I believe there is more than a remnant and that’s why we must follow Jesus’ great commission to bring knowledge of him to all people. The words from our blogs are great tools for sharing that news. I will also pray for you. I have been blessed to have my husband for almost 50 years. I do know your feeling of betrayal though, because my father was unfaithful and it was with a woman from our church. He stayed with us and my mother remained with him until his death. It took me a very long time to forgive him and I always held the fear that he still cared for the other woman. God can heal broken hearts too. God will bless you!
