It’s been one of those outstanding weather weeks here in my neck of the woods. October allergies have returned, so I haven’t been getting much yard work done. The humongous black walnut tree outside my window has shed almost all its leaves, creating a carpet of brilliant yellow for now. I think it will remain until the first snow.
Animals are scurrying from here to there, storing the fruit of that same tree along with nibbling on small pumpkins I’ve set out as decorations. Our neighbor dog – a Great Dane – came to check them out and started rolling them on the ground. He carried one off to play with at his own house.
Election stuff in the mail and on my doorknob go immediately into the recycle bin. I am researching the candidates in my own way and really get angry at the amount of money spent on this costly advertising. There should be a cap on spending for all candidates.
I am appalled by the amount I’m spending on groceries. Even though I’ve started another diet, the cost on necessities has almost doubled.
Days are getting shorter. I wake up at 8 AM when I used to rise at 6 AM. You’d think I’d be ready for bed later, but instead I nod off at about 8 PM because it’s so dark outside. Add to that, daylight savings time changes in a couple weeks so we can expect even less waking hours.
I’ve started caring for my great grandson for a couple days a week. I’m basically watching him play for the most part. Now that he’s two, he’s very active and surrounded by a sea of toys to keep him busy. He is exploring his boundaries – testing my patience – and still likes to cuddle, which makes it all worthwhile.
Does this post sound like an old lady letting off some steam? It probably is. Life changes radically when you’re in your 80s. I’m learning to accept the fact, but it has been a battle, where my physical self is giving up the fight. With the condition of the world, hope for a future can seem pretty grim. I then remind myself that this world is only temporary. I’m looking forward to heaven, a new body, no tears or sorrow, no pain, no fear. I also know that day will come when God determines it. He has promised me and He always keeps His promises. Because of that, I thank Him for giving me extra time to enjoy the good things of this life.
THANK YOU, JESUS, FOR ANOTHER DAY!
