The week is coming to an end. For those of you in the working world this is a time of celebration. You look forward to a couple days of rest. Even when we’re retired, we enjoy the weekends. This year we have the pleasure of ushering in two Friday the 13ths. I’m not superstitious, but I know a lot of folks are. First of all, fear of anything is a state of mind which comes to us directly from the father of all lies. The devil likes us to angst over things like this, because it allows him an open door to our souls. We have the ammunition to take him down. It’s found in God’s Word to us, the Bible.
Today is also a World Day of Sleep. I don’t know who comes up with this these weird and unusual holidays, but I’m all for this one. Can you imagine the luxury of sleeping through the entire day? It would be heavenly unless your sleep was interrupted by a constant barrage of bad dreams. This is another tool in Satan’s trove of implements to deceive us and turn us from God.
Fridays are no different than any other day of the week. If we maintain a positive attitude, we can overcome the negative vibes that move into our brains. The uncertainties we face every day are enough for some to require straight jackets, while others seem to be completely fearless. How do you handle your fears? I’m still in the process of figuring that one out. I should have faith that God has my back in all circumstances, but sometimes even that isn’t enough. Prayers can help, but fear will once again rear its ugly head. Many times, our fears, like unexplained dreams, are an unsettling reminder that we need someone to help us get through this life.
Our fears don’t just magically disappear when we become Christians. Sometimes we face even more of them. It’s a tough journey. Life can pull, tug at us, push us around and cause us to give up. The only thing to alleviate those anxious moments is turning to our heavenly Father. In His Word we can find comfort, peace, patience and God’s plan for us. Through His message, we can conquer our fears and move forward. The key is putting your faith in someone who has dispelled all fear.

Satan never gives up–he’ll barrage us with fears till the day God takes us home to heaven. I think you’re right, Kathy, our best defense is prayer–prayers that affirm who GOD is (so superior to our enemy in every way) and what he’s promised (Psalm 145:13b). May our fears fade as our prayers strengthen!
