My weekly work keeps me at home for most of the day – working on my blog, memorizing lines for the play I’m in, writing articles and other things. For the most part, my work week is pretty laid back. Weekends are supposed to be for relaxation, but for us it’s usually the best time to work at our crafts.
This past weekend was such an example. Paul spent Saturday in front of his easel, as usual. This time he painted a little further away from home, at a beautiful farmstead which is now an event center. He showed the picture to one of our church members and said, “This is a barn I painted yesterday. To which she responded, “You painted a whole barn in one day?” He explained that he didn’t physically paint the barn, only a picture of it. She was still surprised that he’d finished such a beautiful painting in one day.
I headed out too, for an afternoon at an event to promote the theatre I’m now involved with. I helped judge an amazing talent show with participants from second grade to age 20. It was a tough one to judge, but exciting to see these young ones with so much talent and confidence. I managed to get on stage with one of the group dances. I’m paying for that today.
Sunday we attended church, the church picnic, I headed off to rehearsal and then a board meeting in the evening. I managed to hear snippets of the Vikings game as well as seeing most of the Packer game when I arrived home. We have an allegiance to both teams. We still love the Packers because we lived in Wisconsin until we were 24. I turned the game off before Aaron Rodgers won it for the team. Vikings won too, so for us it was a win – win situation.
Weekends are a time to regenerate. I slept in this morning. Too much activity for an old lady of 76, but chock full of fun. I use my weekdays to get my energy back. We all need a time to restart our engines. Even God took a day off after He finished creating the universe and all its inhabitants. Keeping busy is good for us, because it keeps us alive and vibrant.
With each day, I thank God for giving me another one. I know He will be with me throughout the coming week, even though my face is getting more wrinkled and my body is much closer to the ground. Life goes on. We live it, with God’s help, and we look forward to our final rest more and more each passing second.
I identify with many aspects of your work and weekend, Kathy.

Here I was, thinking that I did an uncommon amount over the weekend — traveling 6 hours round trip to Santa Fe, where my chaplain husband officiated at a wedding. Then coming home to a house guest and our two clingy dogs, who had missed us terribly. And then, after far too little sleep Saturday night, we went to church Sunday morning and to a two and a half hour Bible study in Sunday afternoon.
Right now, I am exhausted. But I do believe that your weekend was even busier!

I was able to take a nice long nap early this afternoon, and I feel much better. But now I need to unload the firewood that is in the bed of my husband’s pickup truck. It’s a longbed and it is completely full of wood. And it’s in the upper 80S out right now, doggone it. I have to do it, though, because my hubby tore the rotator cuff on his right shoulder and he can barely lift a cup of coffee now. I am afraid that if I don’t go unload the wood now, he will try to do it, and hurt himself.
Early tomorrow morning I have to be at the VFW hall, where I have volunteered to help with a dinner for Patriots’ Day. But I will be able to rest on Wednesday!

Saturday is just a work day for me. I have worked most every Saturday for going on 11 years, unless I am taking personal time. I finally have it lined out so I don’t much actually work a Sunday, just take a peek at things and make sure my Sunday fill in knows what needs to happen. Which is good, because I have a young teen class again this year every Sunday evening, and my regular rotation teaching the adult class; So, I need time Sunday mornings to pray and study to be ready. And, yes, I am 5 days behind in reading!

I always read them! Oddly, I really love the poems with the artwork. They just meld so well. I say oddly, becasue I’m not really a poetry fan per se, but my time on WordPress has taught me to appreciate it a bit. I always thought it was just works piled up, but I know now there are…rules. Maybe that’s where the expression that something is without “rhyme or reason,” came from? Some people do write poems like that. Not you though, I promise!

Aww thanks Wally. I started writing poetry because Paul’s art is so inspirational. The words sometimes surprise me when I’m read them later. I wonder where they come from. Mainly from God’s own voice working through me. Thanks for your kind words.
