THE EGGS AND I . . .

This year I brought my hand painted Easter eggs to the church breakfast. I believe the price of eggs last year was like $7. a dozen. They would’ve been considered golden eggs. My watercolor paint box was open, so I filled my brush with brilliant colors and began adding to each of those hard-boiled eggs. They were much prettier than the ones I used to make with my children, but even those memories hold a special place in my heart. The eggs were consumed and enjoyed, but the colors transferred to fingers and made for interesting conversation.

I got to thinking about eggs and what significance they held for Easter, so I Googled it and this is what I came up with. Eggs are symbolic of new life. Early Christians used the egg to represent the empty tomb as well as resurrection. 3000 years before that, the egg was considered a sign of fertility, the life cycle and the rejuvenation of the earth in springtime. It’s amazing what you can find on the internet. In modern times, we have seen Easter egg hunts and egg rolling contests. They also serve a purpose after Easter. The uneaten ones can be made into egg salad. The forgotten ones can be located in a few months by their aroma. Or if you were me, you’d bring the leftovers home and immediately drop them on the floor. One stray wasn’t noticed right away. The rest of them crashed upon landing.

When we age, we tend to lose our balance. We can’t move as swiftly as we once did. We have difficulty carrying things. We eventually come to a point in life when we feel useless or lacking purpose. So, thinking about the Easter egg, we can turn our thinking towards the new life that awaits after death. We will have new bodies. Our wounds, aches and pains will be no more. We will be reborn by the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus. While we wait for that day, we should enjoy the life we have in front of us.

In case that doesn’t work and you need a little push to get going in the morning, here are a few egg jokes to lift your spirits.

  • What do you call someone who isegg-posessed? An eggomaniac.
  • What’s the worst crime against eggs? Poaching.
  • Why don’t dinosaurs lay eggs? They’re egg-stinct.
  • Why are eggs afraid of Easter? They don’t want to dye.

If none of those tickle your funny bone, put an egg in your shoe and beat it. Oh, boy, what a yolk.

About atimetoshare.me

As I reach the end of my years, I find I have a lot of good information stored up in this old decrepit mind of mine. If I don't write it all down, it may vanish and no one will have the advantage of my thoughts. This is why this blog exists. I love the Lord, Jesus with all my heart and soul. I know I'm undeserving of all He's done for me, but I also know that His love is beyond my comprehension. I've always wanted to write. I never kept diaries, but tucked my thoughts in my head for future reference. I use them now in creating stories, plays, poetry and my blog. I continue to learn every day. I believe the compilation of our time spent with God will have huge affect on the way we live. I know I'm a sinner and I need a Savior. I have One through Jesus, Christ. My book, "Stages - a memoir," is about the seven stages of life from the perspective of a woman. It addresses all the things girls and women go through in life as they travel it with Jesus, and it is available on Amazon.com.
