ANOTHER LONG WEEKEND . . .

Today has been set aside for us to honor all the presidents that have served this country since its inception. I couldn’t resist the image I’ve chosen for this post. The role of President of the United States has often been the basis for many jokes. Every third Monday of February we celebrate all those who have placed their lives on the line – withstood heckling, name calling and mudslinging – faced difficult elections – held the future of the country in their hands. February 22 was the birthday of the father of our country, George Washington. Lincoln was born on February 12. When I was a kid, we celebrated those days separately. Today, we “honor” all of them on that one day and get a free day off of work, along with terrific sales on cars, mattresses and so on.

The job description for this office is filled with great responsibility. Most who choose to take on the task, give up successful careers in public life and set themselves up for ridicule. The truth is that each president that has served this country is subject to all the checks and balances that have been written into the constitution. In the last hundred years or so, this most important job in the country has been the subject of tabloid news, lawsuits, impeachment proceedings and more. If all the things we see on the news were true, we’d be in a lot of trouble. We’d also be without a president.

Today, let’s not forget how our country was founded. Let’s remember the sacrifices that the common people made as well as the elite of society. The office of the POTUS will always be on display. Today, celebrate the fact that our presidents are not kings but public servants. The people still have control at the ballot box. God has control over all of it.

Psalm 103:19 “The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules overall.”

About atimetoshare.me

As I reach the end of my years, I find I have a lot of good information stored up in this old decrepit mind of mine. If I don't write it all down, it may vanish and no one will have the advantage of my thoughts. This is why this blog exists. I love the Lord, Jesus with all my heart and soul. I know I'm undeserving of all He's done for me, but I also know that His love is beyond my comprehension. I've always wanted to write. I never kept diaries, but tucked my thoughts in my head for future reference. I use them now in creating stories, plays, poetry and my blog. I continue to learn every day. I believe the compilation of our time spent with God will have huge affect on the way we live. I know I'm a sinner and I need a Savior. I have One through Jesus, Christ. My book, "Stages - a memoir," is about the seven stages of life from the perspective of a woman. It addresses all the things girls and women go through in life as they travel it with Jesus, and it is available on Amazon.com.
