I’ve always thought it would be interesting to study my family tree and learn the kind of people I came from. The problem is, there were probably more than a few scalawags in the bunch, and I don’t necessarily want to know about them.
The Bible is full of genealogy all the way back to creation. It’s a complete timeline from then to the birth of Jesus, Christ. How interesting that His family tree included people who weren’t perfect, even though He was. There were prostitutes, adulterers, drunks, the dredges of society, abusers, murderers – sinners just like me, but they all trace back to one Father; God, the Creator of all. Jesus is the Son of God, true man and true God. It had to be this way so that He could be the perfect sacrifice to wah away the sin of the world.
When we look at our own genealogy, we will run across some not so nice people, but we can also trace our beginnings to God the Father. Because of that, we can consider ourselves Jesus’ brother. He regained our perfection in the sight of God, the Father, and therefore we’ve been adopted into His kingdom as sons and daughters. Our true freedom waits on the other side death.
Thank you, Lord, for the price you paid for my ransom. Because of your suffering and pain, my life can now be spent serving you and looking forward to thanking you in person in heaven. Amen!
