We are living in terrifying times. Fear grasps at our throats and many succumb to it. We are slowly and cleverly being devoured by evil. It’s a problem as old as time.
In my lifetime alone, I’ve experienced the fear of invasion from foreign governments with Pearl Harbor. Again, as I attended grade school, I remember practice air raid drills where we’d be ushered to the basement and told to sit and cover our heads. As time went by, there was the Korean War, Bay of Pigs invasion, the Cold War, Viet Nam, Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, many intermittent terrorist raids, 9/11, Syria and now Paris.
We will never escape the fear of evil on this planet. It’s a fact of life. However, if we let that fear rule our hearts, the terrorists have already achieved their goal. They want us to fear them.
Unfortunately, their zeal is laced with the love of a false God. As Christians, we are assured of the True God’s protection from our enemies.we need to come together – leaving doctrinal differences behind and pray for God’s intervention.
In the words of King David in Psalm 139:17-24
Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God!
O men of blood, depart from me!
They speak against you with malicious intent;
your enemies take your name in vain.
Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord?
And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
I hate them with complete hatred;
I count them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts![c
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Those of us who belong to Jesus do need to find unity and strength in Him but we must also, cling to the truth of the Bible because the enemy without is also, gathering strength within. Deception is strong in the church today, and borders on the delusional. The power of the lie is fear, we have to resist the fear so as not to be overcome by the lie. Our refuge and safety is in the true God of the Bible.
