My yearly physical has turned into a twice a year exam. I understand that they need to keep closer tabs on us when we get older and I appreciate that. It gives me a sense of security that I’m still in pretty good working order. I’m also lucky to have a very great doctor. Seeing her twice a year, gives me the opportunity to look into the face of a kind and caring individual who spends a half an hour making sure I’m doing all the right things to keep me going for a while. I definitely have much more confidence in her than my new mechanic.
Our relationships on this planet play a huge part in the people we ultimately become. We meet all kinds during our short earthly walk. I truly believe that God places all these folks in our lives for a reason – even the ones that irritate us the most. In fact, He’s tuning us up for the rest of our lives here and in eternity.
With those we trust, we have gained solid friendships and people we can depend on. With those who get on our nerves, we’re learning patience. We flourish with those that encourage us. All of those relationships have an impact on who we become. As with all the problems and challenges in life, God has placed people there to temper and refine us for heaven.
“For you, O God, have tested us, you have tried us as silver is tried. You brought us into the net; you laid a crushing burden on our backs; you let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance.” Psalm 66:10-12 ESV
