WHAT DAY IS IT TODAY?

Today is national town criers day.  Now that’s an occupation you don’t hear much about these days.  In olden times a town crier was the only source of information to the community.  Things have changed radically with the invention of the printing press.  Think of those poor unemployed town criers.  Talk about disgruntled workers.  These guys were wiped out in just a blink of an eye.  I wonder if they had unemployment benefits or pension plans.  Maybe they just went to the Town Criers Old Folks Home and are currently playing shuffleboard.

Today is also National Gruntled Workers Day.  The town crier may have been eliminated, as many other careers have been taken over by electronics, and this of course created a lot of disgruntled workers.  So someone thought it might be a great idea to celebrate the gruntled workers.  I’m not sure what gruntled is, but it must be the opposite of disgruntled.  These would undoubtedly be those who love their jobs, are devoted to their careers and don’t complain about anything.  I’m assuming these folks are none other than the Geeks out there, since they seem to be the only ones with gainful employment.  I suppose that’s why today is also National Embrace Your Geekness Day.

Everything these days is run by computer technology.  Some of us are the underlings who spend hours on our PCs but aren’t really well versed in all the terminology or use them to their maximum potential.  We are called nerds.  To be considered a Geek, you must base your entire life around technology.  Not only do you know the lingo, you have a job that excites you and is a necessary evil.  Just think – someday National Embrace Your Geekness day will be obsolete!

If none of the above applies to you, go to McDonald’s and order ten super size French fries, because today is also National French Fries day.  Of course you’ll have to sneak by Michelle Obama and her food police.

So Happy National Town Criers, Gruntled Workers, Embrace Your Geekness and French Fries Day.  Isn’t it great to live in America?

About atimetoshare.me

As I reach the end of my years, I find I have a lot of good information stored up in this old decrepit mind of mine. If I don't write it all down, it may vanish and no one will have the advantage of my thoughts. This is why this blog exists. I love the Lord, Jesus with all my heart and soul. I know I'm undeserving of all He's done for me, but I also know that His love is beyond my comprehension. I've always wanted to write. I never kept diaries, but tucked my thoughts in my head for future reference. I use them now in creating stories, plays, poetry and my blog. I continue to learn every day. I believe the compilation of our time spent with God will have huge affect on the way we live. I know I'm a sinner and I need a Savior. I have One through Jesus, Christ. My book, "Stages - a memoir," is about the seven stages of life from the perspective of a woman. It addresses all the things girls and women go through in life as they travel it with Jesus, and it is available on Amazon.com.

As always I am a day late, this made me laugh and I am a gruntled worker! Oh how I wish I had read this yesterday I would have went through Micky D’s on my way to work (at my job I love) and got me a bag of french fries! Those poor Town Crier’s … wouldn’t it be interesting to see what they thought of the things that have now replaced them besides the printing press? Imagine trying to describe facebook, twitter etc….
