When we grow older, our self worth tends to decline. Unfortunately when you pass retirement age, there is a certain amount of discrimination in our country. People who have amazing life skills and experience often have little value in a society of young whippersnappers. (Did I really say that?)
When you’re resume` is chock full of experience, you may get an interview, but chances are you’re considered over qualified, unfit the job. or they think it’s a waste of time to train and old dog new tricks.
There are many countries that place the elderly in high esteem, while in the United States we generally look at age differently. God doesn’t look at us this way. Even though our prime has packed its bags and left for good, we continue to have both purpose and value to Him. There’s a reason He continues to breathe life into us. It’s up to us to find out how He intends to use our abilities for the rest of our days.
Lord, as I see myself growing older day by day, help me realize that I still have a reason to be alive.. I want others of my age to know that too. We have an important place in the scheme of things until the day you carry us home to heaven. Give me the right words to help others see what you’ve done for them and how special they are to you. Amen!
Many of my elders have warned me that the Golden Years aren’t so golden. I’ll try to enjoy them when I get there; we’ll see. J.

I know. We’ve always loved dogs, but now that we’re approaching 80s we e decided to enjoy our grand pups instead

I don’t know about “self worth,” but looking at the bank account “worth” is down to nearly nothing! Then again, our son has only worked five days over the past two weeks without his first paycheck in a couple of months. As the old Spiritual says, “We shall overcome…”

We shall when we arrive in heaven😜

It’s always been a personal point of anger, how our society neglects its elderly. Other societies revere them and look up to them for wisdom.

I agree, but there are still many young people looking for advice from us old fogies too. You’re a good example.

And it’s “elders” like you, 😘, that I “hang my hat” of needed advice and wisdom upon. I’m an old soul, and the best generations are above me, and sadly, dying too rapidly. It’s up to us “whippersnappers” to pull up our bootstraps and show the even younger ones what a life of God and simplicity and simple hard work can do for future generations. You and the millions like you are worth it all to me. And our heavenly home and prize awaits….🙏🏻❣️

Oh bless your sweet heart. I always had a strong respect for my elders when growing up. It was amazing to hear their stories of perseverance in times of suffering as their ability to do what might seem impossible today. Thanks for your kind comments and encouragement.

I totally agree. Those of us in our retirement years have much to offer. I feel blessed when one of my daughters asks for advice. I still value the experience and wisdom of my mother, too.

My mom was a great source of inspiration during her time on earth. Just because the clock is ticking away, doesn’t mean we have lost our value. These grey heads have a lot of wisdom packed in them.

Perhaps a reason I have been drawn to writing and posting on WP is to share some of the “gray matter” that wants to be shared with others.
