This is one of my first entries on WordPress. Funny how some things just never change.
My dreams are often full of creativity and unusual thoughts which don’t usually manifest themselves in my daily life. Sometimes they become part of a play or story I’m writing. I had a whopper last night and I don’t think even Joseph, the interpreter of dreams, would take long to figure this one out.
It started out with me spinning and winding down through a hole in the ground – somewhat like Alice in Wonderland. I was going through a series of tunnels that all led to a dead end. I wound up in St. Paul of all places. I guess St. Paul could be considered an unusual place by some.
Suddenly I was driving through knee deep water. The water continued to rise and it wasn’t long before the car became engulfed and I had to escape. I walked over a long bridge covered with doors of various sizes and shapes. Do you get the feeling that I have been spending too much time with children?
I finally opened one of the doors and walked through it, only to discover more obstacles. I spiraled through another channel of openings, each leading to things I enjoy in life. There were beautiful gardens, masterpieces of art, rows and rows of beautiful costumes and many more things that bring enjoyment on this earth – including chocolate – gobs and gobs of it.
When I finally woke up I felt as though I had been on a safari in Africa. I was exhausted. Every bone in my body ached. I was literally worn out, but couldn’t go back to sleep. I didn’t want to go back to that place, even as tempting as it was. It was confusing and just didn’t feel like a good place to be.
OK, so what does this silly dream have to say? I think it was a reminder of how out of control our lives become when we try to handle them ourselves. We think we’re In the driver’s seat, but we really aren’t.
Life is filled with many twists and turns – some of them are nice while others get us no where. We have the brains to figure out which path to take, but it may not be the best one for us. So who do we turn to when things are muddy – when we see no clear path – when the world is spinning out of control?
1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
My dream sent me out of control for a few fleeting moments. My life is often out of control too. I don’t always have a clear road map. God knows what I need and what I confront every day. He knows that I get worried and stressed. He sees my weaknesses, but He also sees my strengths. He knows that I am going to be tempted each and every day, but He still provides a way out for me.
Life is never easy, especially when you’re a Christian. The problems don’t go away, but when you are grounded in faith, God will not only give you answers – He will also give you the means to solve them.
