Last Sunday we shared a sumptuous Thanksgiving meal with family I just arrived home from church where we celebrated Thanksgiving with another huge meal and delicious desserts On Thursday, I’ll be spending time with my daughter’s extended family and undoubtedly fill my fat, aging body with everything I shouldn’t be eating – AGAIN!
I’ve so much to be thankful for My life has been a series of ups and downs, but never outs, because God has been my partner. There were times when I had such a low opinion of my worth, that I was convinced I’d never amount to anything.
As I grew into a young woman, I faced possible death while be held up at gunpoint. I wondered why would God would allow my life to end before it even began. After I got married, I tried to make a dollar stretch into ten unsuccessfully. Money always seemed to be a source of stress, but God provided just enough at exactly the right moment. I watched helplessly as my husband went through some serious health issues, as I was also burdened with some of my own.
After several years, my husband was able to get a successful business off the ground and build it over twelve years. We didn’t have to worry about money – for a while – but when the economy took a dive, we were forced into bankruptcy and had to foreclose on our home. We both took jobs to keep food on the table, doing whatever we could to make that happen.
That was one of the lowest, humiliating points in our marriage and yet a wonderful time of blessing for both of us Even though we had recently celebrated our 50th birthdays, we could continue to thank God for strengthening our resolve. There were times when I thought we’d become homeless and standing on the corner with signs asking for help, but God didn’t let that happen.
This year I have three opportunities to thank God for His constant care and provision. The point is, every day should be Thanksgiving. I thank Him for dear friends who are now enjoying the promised gift of paradise. I praise Him for His consistency in a world of chaos and confusion. I lift up my arms, with a thankful heart, because He alone has shown me that I have a purpose yet to fulfill. I have an opportunity to share His love for others and He will be there to bless it.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours May God fill your heart with gratitude every single day!
Great is His faithfulness!

our tales weave closely–Gregory was held at gunpoint when 3 gunman stormed his jewelry store several years before we had met—he was shot in the leg and was very fortunate.
At 50 he had to start a business all over again from scratch–I was the only one working as he struggled finding anyone who wanted to hire a 50 year old jeweler—-when my dad loaned him the money to finally start his own business—one he’s been at it now for 18 years—
plus I followed him to the woods this afternoon while he scouted for deer while I snapped pictures…
Paul paints and I taught art—-
and I’ve been eating getting ready for the turkey day—-
lots to be thankful for—so very much!
Since I’m adopted, maybe I was really originally from Wisconsin… 🙂

Well, for what it’s worth I get this. I emerged from my first marriage pretty much in financial ruin, under similar circumstances. It’s taken 10 years to get out from under all of that, but the Lord has blessed.
