Last night, as I restlessly made it through the night, my mind slipped in and out of prayer. I’ve been battling a virus that won’t give up and causes coughing streaks that interrupt anything going on around me. I guess I was feeling sorry for myself, but then I realized that maybe I wasn’t praying for the right thing. Maybe I was being selfish. There certainly are more important things in this crazy world to pray for.
Our country has been devastated with storms, earthquakes and fires. The financial losses are great and it will take a long time to fix things. Each day we’re thrown another brick of insanity in the way our world rides a fast train to hell. Morality is on a steady decline. Churches are losing members quickly. Modifications are made to bring them back, which puts them in even more peril.
Our young people have been left with a heap of ashes to clean up. They’ll be saddled with college debt. Jobs they hoped to make a living at will not be available. Fixing a society that has declined because of sin is going to take more than a few years. Have we set a good example for them?
What good will my prayers do? My words are as meaningless as the words Solomon prayed, and yet God in His love for us, invites us to bring our troubles to Him and promises answers. The answers may not happen immediately or in a way that we want, but they will be answered for our benefit. God seems to know better than us in that area.
Like a good father, he wants us to communicate with Him. Nothing is too great or too small. He simply wants us to talk to Him. Because of His great mercy, He will hear us and put things in place to answer our supplications. We may think our requests are insignificant, but God has our best interests at heart and can accomplish great things because of it.
Open your hearts today and lift your voice to the God of the universe. He can do anything. He knows what we need before we open our mouths. He answers in His own way, so that we know He is in control. He has His finger on the pulse of every human being that inhabits the earth and His mind is filled with ideas to perform miracles – even for the smallest of requests. Oh, and if you want a little one on one communication – open your Bible. His words are right there. Amen!
Love this verse: The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16 Time for us to be praying!
