We’re loving our new “old” house more and more every day. In the past few weeks, we’ve been tinkering around in the yard, establishing a few new gardens and clearing out some of the old ones which have overgrown. It seems it’s becoming a place that draws visitors too from time to time.
Yesterday, our granddaughter came to spend the weekend, while her parents enjoyed a weekend alone celebrating their anniversary. Later in the day, a long time friend stopped by to pick up a couple scripts and talk about our upcoming summer theater camp. In the evening, some dear friends popped in to say “hi” and share some time. We love the fact that our home has an open door policy. This is one of the reasons we chose to buy this place.
Throughout our marriage, we’ve been spending most of our time outside of the home in order to make a living and pay for that house. Now, after downsizing, we have the freedom to enjoy our home and invite our friends to enjoy it with us.
When God invites us to His house, it’s much the same. He desires our presence. He doesn’t need our worship – He’s God. He doesn’t want us to do it as an outward act to show others how good we are. He loves to hear our prayers – our voices singing to honor Him – to share His blessings of the Sacraments with us – to have each of us come together in His name. It’s true that He exists everywhere, but when we come together as a body of believers, it makes Him glad.
Accept His open door policy. He’s available morning, noon and night. He will listen to your prayers and answer in His timing. He knows what your needs are and wants only the best for you. Spend some time thanking Him for that blessing. Show your honor for Him by hearing His Word and praising Him with others who love Him too.
As we face the struggles of this world, we know we’ll get relief in His house. It’s there where it’s all about God – and all about what He’s done for us.
well then, don’t be surprised when I come knocking 🙂

Sweet! I’m seeing likewise as I get a drip into my body after six days of illness. God enjoys when we see him in all we go through, and he’s glad when we share his life with other brothers and sisters around.
This is so inspiring!

We are indeed. Being retired makes it a lot easier too.

Thanks so much. There’s nothing like open doors to welcome those we care about. I’m sure things are much the same on an Iowa farm.
