“Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.” Victor Hugo
There’s really nothing funny about aging, but the way we think about it can be hilarious. For example, my sister, the ultimate optimist, has said if she’s going to wind up in a nursing home, she’s going to make sure they have a wine and cheese bar. In fact, she’s thinking about setting up franchises to do just that. The elderly would have a lot more fun and would probably not even need their medications.
There are a few good things about growing old. First of all, your joints are more reliable than a meteorologist. You probably won’t have to learn anything the hard way anymore and chances are that anything you buy for the house won’t wear out. Sorry, these aren’t original jokes, but hopefully they gave you a good morning chuckle.
Everyone needs to laugh. I can attest to the fact that my life has been full of it. Just take a look at my face. It’s crawling with laugh lines.
But seriously folks, laughter has been proven to be literally good medicine. When we laugh, stress hormones are decreased. Endorphins are released which make us feel good. Laughter makes the heart pump at a good rate and helps us to forget about some of the pain in our lives.
Proverbs 17:22 says, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
We can grumble and resist the aging process as much as we want to, but the fact is, most of us will have to face it one day. Time marches on, the elements ravage our appearance, stress on agile bodies can cause them to wear out, but if we can laugh – we will enjoy the benefits of becoming old – maybe even enjoying some aged cheese and fine wine.
Anyway, the alternative to not laughing sure isn’t great – remember, a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Like I told you, I am trying to stop reading blogs so I can finish my memoir but I saw this and oh my goodness… you are BEAUTIFUL and INSPIRING!!!!!

Thanks my friend. I can still smile, but God has been very good to me. Even in my darkest moments he gives me the ability to smile. Without him, who knows if I’d be able to. Thank you for your sweet words. Mischief indeed😀

You must remain positive when aging. It really isn’t for sissies. Thanks for stopping by.
