THE GOOD WIFE

Today I was going to write about Job’s exhortation accepting the bad things that happen along with the good.  When confronted by his wife to denounce God, he said, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?”   This led me to find out what it takes to be a good wife. The Bible has a lot to say about a nagging wife, a quarrelsome wife and even an excellent one.

On the TV show, The Good Wife, the wife is anything but good, but seems to get away with it, because it’s what viewers want to see.  Women from my era remember the June Cleavers who stayed at home to raise a family.  They did the dishes in a crisp, white apron, wore nylons, girdles and dresses to clean the toilet.

Some women grew dissatisfied with that life and fought for their rights to pursue careers.  They burned their bras and girdles, protested and cried for equal rights. Now women hold executive roles in business as well as politics.  They have so many more opportunities than ever before, but still  become like a dripping rain – annoying with their demands – raspy voiced in their pursuit of their desires – a pain in the neck.

Men  have taken on a much different job description over time.  Husbands now fill the hole left by moms whose careers bring home the bacon.  They are made to look foolish on TV shows and commercial.  They have been pushed into the background in some instances in favor of the super woman.

To get back on track, what is a good wife?  This is a portion of Proverbs 30:10-31.

“She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.”

About atimetoshare.me

As I reach the end of my years, I find I have a lot of good information stored up in this old decrepit mind of mine. If I don't write it all down, it may vanish and no one will have the advantage of my thoughts. This is why this blog exists. I love the Lord, Jesus with all my heart and soul. I know I'm undeserving of all He's done for me, but I also know that His love is beyond my comprehension. I've always wanted to write. I never kept diaries, but tucked my thoughts in my head for future reference. I use them now in creating stories, plays, poetry and my blog. I continue to learn every day. I believe the compilation of our time spent with God will have huge affect on the way we live. I know I'm a sinner and I need a Savior. I have One through Jesus, Christ. My book, "Stages - a memoir," is about the seven stages of life from the perspective of a woman. It addresses all the things girls and women go through in life as they travel it with Jesus, and it is available on Amazon.com.

  1. I never met a June Cleaver but I did choose to be like the women in my family and stay home to raise my children. I was treated as a pariah by most of my peers but I’m happy I made that decision. I treasure the time I had with my children and the time I’ve spent building our personal wealth by taking care of our home and improving it. I’m glad women have more opportunities than my mom and aunts did but I don’t see any truly, liberated women either. Most of them just added a job to the long list of what wives and mothers have to do. That was my generation. In this generation, family is evaporating all together. I’ve talked to children who were shocked to learn that my husband and I married BEFORE we had children and we’ve only been married to one another. There are exceptions but in the popular culture family has no form, no substance, and no expectations. The Progressive proponents of modern eugenics desire all of us to be transgendered, asexual. The healthy ideals we grew up with have been replaced by science fiction and twisted dreams of a super race. It’s not something I want any part of and I’m so glad I know Jesus and the better alternative He offers.

I couldn’t agree more. Just another step toward the end times. Jesus is our only possible hope. The funny thing to me is that folks are still searching for something spiritual, but they want to control it. Jesus’ way is so much easier and it’s free.

Hi Kathy getting caught up on my reading. Your point about the way men are portrayed in mass media is huge. Ever seen a sitcom lately where the Dad was not either an idiot, lazy, a buffoon, or jerk? Not lately you haven’t. This affects people, and they don’t even know it influences them. Look, my family overall is very respectful and gracious to me. We all know that is huge to men, and it is. But even in families striving to uphold the responsibilities of different members of the family. Just the other day we had to have a talk about it. No biggie, but some things were said that made me feel slighted, and it was exactly what was being presented on some stupid tv show we had been watching. I was shocked to see it happen, and they were shocked to have been guilty of it.

It really is a sign of the times. I think that our nation has become desensitized in many ways and this is just one. We need to get back to the basics of Christian living if we are to overcome the world. Have a blessed weekend my friend.
