It seems this little month lacks in number of days, but there are plenty of things to celebrate.  This February we’re also given an extra day to enjoy.  There actually are a lot of things going during this tiny month.  It’s been designated National Heart Month, Black History Month, National Weddings Month and it boasts of such celebrations as Ground Hog Day,  Mardi Gras, Presidents Day, Valentines Day and believe it or not – Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day.

Last night, as I reluctantly watched the news, I was sickened by all the anger, hatred and ugliness going on in this world – and that was before the political debate.  There were stories of an upside down world where law enforcement is becoming the enemy and the criminals are now the victims.  There was news of human trafficking, wars, politicians with deeply soiled lives and still we continue to look up to them as a nation.   We’re daily exposed to malicious lack of respect for human life, for authority and lack of respect of any kind. We focus too much on material things and our national budget proves that.  We live in an age of entitlement, when it’s easier to accept gifts from the government instead of using our God given talents to make a living.

February tends to give us a case of cabin fever, of which I have now fallen victim. We’re growing tired of the cold weather.  We’re tired of shoveling snow.  Frankly we’re already sick of the political rhetoric being thrown at us.  It’s no fun driving on icy roads, so we caccoon ourselves into our quiet, little retreats and watch television.  No wonder we’re depressed.

My suggestion for February – give up watching the news for Lent.  Not really a sacrifice, but it will make us feel a lot better.

About atimetoshare.me

As I reach the end of my years, I find I have a lot of good information stored up in this old decrepit mind of mine. If I don't write it all down, it may vanish and no one will have the advantage of my thoughts. This is why this blog exists. I love the Lord, Jesus with all my heart and soul. I know I'm undeserving of all He's done for me, but I also know that His love is beyond my comprehension. I've always wanted to write. I never kept diaries, but tucked my thoughts in my head for future reference. I use them now in creating stories, plays, poetry and my blog. I continue to learn every day. I believe the compilation of our time spent with God will have huge affect on the way we live. I know I'm a sinner and I need a Savior. I have One through Jesus, Christ. My book, "Stages - a memoir," is about the seven stages of life from the perspective of a woman. It addresses all the things girls and women go through in life as they travel it with Jesus, and it is available on Amazon.com.

The joy of the Lord is our strength. In a cold world we need to stoke our joy. Thanks, for your thoughts.

  2. I try not to watch the news for anything other the weather and traffic reports. The rest is too depressing and I totally hate the political climate tha exists. Have a wonderful day 😊

I prefer not to watch it either. Occasionally there will be a heart warming story, but few and far between. Have a blessed weekend, Mary.

I always make an effort to have some of my houseplants in bloom in the dead of winter. Pots of African violets and lush greenery really help dispel the gloom. Makes me long for the new heavens and new earth.
