DAY 6 JANUARY, 2016

new-year-resolutions

Almost a week has gone by and all the resolutions made a few days ago may have already been discarded.  We step from one year into another with hopes of making drastic changes, only to realize that life simply goes on as usual.

Those we care about become ill, go through difficulties financially, suffer emotional loss, get divorced, have babies, lose their jobs – life revolves and all the hopes and dreams we make for ourselves seem to melt into oblivion.

Has this happened to you?  We all experience deep pain throughout our lives.  We can’t change what’s in the master plan.  We have no control over anything.  Sounds pretty ominous – even hopeless, doesn’t it?  Especially when you believe you should be the master of your own destiny.

I’m in a season of life where many of my friends and relatives are going through health issues and even death.  Some are tired of living according to God’s plan and have steered off into different directions.  Some even give up, because they don’t have any fight left in them.

Whatever season you’re in, isn’t it good to know that someone is directing everything that happens on this planet?  God is the only constant. He remains consistently the same – no matter what’s going on in our lives.

Goal setting is good.  Making plans for the future is wise.  We can’t go through life without some kind of strategy, but we also need to trust that God has our backs.  He’s with us  in all that we do.  He’ll never let us down and we can be sure that His plans for us are for our good.

About atimetoshare.me

As I reach the end of my years, I find I have a lot of good information stored up in this old decrepit mind of mine. If I don't write it all down, it may vanish and no one will have the advantage of my thoughts. This is why this blog exists. I love the Lord, Jesus with all my heart and soul. I know I'm undeserving of all He's done for me, but I also know that His love is beyond my comprehension. I've always wanted to write. I never kept diaries, but tucked my thoughts in my head for future reference. I use them now in creating stories, plays, poetry and my blog. I continue to learn every day. I believe the compilation of our time spent with God will have huge affect on the way we live. I know I'm a sinner and I need a Savior. I have One through Jesus, Christ. My book, "Stages - a memoir," is about the seven stages of life from the perspective of a woman. It addresses all the things girls and women go through in life as they travel it with Jesus, and it is available on Amazon.com.

That’s a tough balance isn’t it Kathy? To understand that God just doesn’t want us sitting around doing nothing, and to plan and have some common sense…but at the same time we are to rely on Him for everything. If you figure that out, let me know will ya?

I’m actually someone who only makes 1 New Year’s resolution per year, which helps me actually stick to it. This year I didn’t know what to do, I was already writing, organized, etc etc…Then on Jan. 2 I read an article in the newspaper by a comedian who’d lost 75 lbs by giving up alcohol; could now afford an awesome loft apartment (from the money he saved from partying); he felt much better; found he was just as funny with or without alcohol; and had WAY more time to write. It made me think about all those things I do to relax, etc. So I decided to give up my Friday or Saturday night glass of wine or two and all or any alcohol that came my way. Interestingly, immediately some friends rebelled, telling me it was a special day, a special this or that, but I want to think of events as things I can have fun at with or without alcohol.

After a retreat once, I was asked by the leader if I’d made any resolutions, I claimed I’d made about 7. Immediately she told me that was too much and to just pick one or two things. Wise advice.

Good luck in keeping your resolution. I’m old enough to realize I can’t even keep one. No matter how hard I try, I always fail, but thanks to Jesus He gives me victory.

I understand what you are saying here, but I do think we need to try to improve our habits in some reasonable ways from time to time. God can guide us in that, in fact we must have His help in order to be successful at anything!

What you say about the “cycles of life” does hold very true, however. We can’t control many things of life, just some of the things which apply to our lives and helping with our loved ones at times…
